I've clearly not been clear enough in the points I was making. I suggest you read again. Nowhere will you find me arguing against any of the pro's you list above, except to point out that they are benefits of XenApp also and can be delivered at a lower price point with XenApp in many scenarios.

Xendesktop has to have a value proposition that XenApp doesn't - Citrix say that extra value is personalisation, but that's a myth and application compatibility - which is true, but only to a marginal degree.

Now XenDesktop does have value, that value is strategic, ie it will manifest over time. That's how I opened the post "Citrix should have made clear that this is a long term goal"

We are working very closely with Citrix and XenDesktop and we are realising some of that strategic benefit early by filling the gaps in XenDesktop with third party products. Citrix are also working to fill those gaps within the next 12 months. Then it might achieve that strategic potential, but that will be 2 years after I wrote the post.

As you quoted Xen Desktop fits 55% of workers your first part of this posts seems to be coming from one of the 45% that isn't targeted

and the 2nd set of points

it seems like your looking at the entire product from a Power End User perspective

try to look at it from an IT perspective

1. uniformity across the board .. configuration
2. time to deploy updates changes
3. control over the problem users (those that download apps)
4. extending the hardware refresh period on desktops
5. cost avoidance in purchasing new hardware
6. environmental impact of using desktop appliances
      a. power savings
      b. cost per unit savings
      c. recycling costs

there is a simple dollars and cents fact that while the initial investment might be more costly than some other options virtualization indeed pays for its self very quickly .. as well as being as enviromentally friendly as computing can be in this day and age
