What I’m sowing and growing in July

For an overview of everything that I’m sowing for the whole year, please take a look at my month-by-month sowing guide.

June finally saw the end of the drought that had been with us for the whole of spring, which was a huge relief.  A few plants suffered badly, but most pulled through.  June brought with it not just a little rain, but also much more unwelcome high winds, although that’s not unusual.

Despite these challenges we’ve continued to break all harvest records.  We harvested more in a single week than ever before and we smashed our previous records for June and the year as a whole.  We’ve harvested nearly £5,500 worth of veg so far in 2020 and a staggering £1,330 of that was in June alone, the end of the so called Hungry Gap!

We are generally running two weeks ahead of last year for most of the crops and because we are actually growing tomatoes and cucumbers to maturity in the conservatory, we are a month or more ahead there.   The back gardenmy plot and the ‘winter allotment‘ are all fully planted, which is a big relief and we are now reaping the rewards and able to sit back and relax for a few months!  The bulk harvest of the broad beans and garlic went very well too and we are replanting that bed with carrots, leeks, brassicas and beetroot.

So finally we get to July’s sowing and growing video!

If you’re interested in the databases that I used to manage the allotments I also have a video and associated blog post about them.  The blog post has all of the details on how to get your own copy of the database (with or without my data) to customise as you wish.

I also have a fancy new database for tracking all of my seed packets.

Here’s a complete read-only view of the varieties database with all of my data.

Here’s what I sowed in June:

Watch out for the next video showing what I’m sowing in August, here’s a hint, quite a lot!
