My most productive days
I’m feeling really rough today, pain that started in my ankle and wrist yesterday lunchtime spread to my fingertips and toes and everything in between last night, when I woke up one side of my body was pain free but the other side was still head to toe. On days like this I start off with pampering, a lazy lie in, a leisurely breakfast at the Beach Terrace Cafe reading a physical paper as well as my iPad, treats as well as a healthy breakfast. I try a few hobbling walks through the sand dunes and then maybe drive to a viewpoint where I read some more while stuffing my face with chocolate.
But as the day progresses it start to think, I might have a few relaxed phone conversations and think some more, I meditate and think some more. A theme will start to emerge from my thoughts, today it was that 4/5 of our cost base sits with delivery partners, I think some more, how should we be reacting to this mostly ignored situation. I start making some notes on the strategic, organisational, political, technical implications. Later I start writing emails to gather information, challenge the status quo, make proposals, realign management resources etc.
It’s on days like this that I think I make the most impact, the days that I’m off sick, feeling sorry for myself and doing very little.
