Silence
I’ve had my unfair share of silence this week and it’s been wonderful. There’s something unique about the high fells, when there’s no one about, no bubbling streams, no wind, just quiet. I’ve been soaking it up because it’s so precious.
Back in my apartment, I’ve been struggling with the noise levels, the extractor fan, bathroom fan, oven cooling fan, kids above me – too much. I’ve found myself popping in my ear plugs, but its not the same somehow, more of a closed-in quiet rather than an expansive one.
I’m typing this is Caffe Nero, after spending the morning on the east shore of Haweswater, and lunch at the Haweswater Hotel. I cycled here from the out of town parking spot that I prefer by the river. I normally like the noise at Caffe Nero, background music and chatter is quite comforting, but it will take a few days to adjust again.
I’m looking forward to getting home now though, once I’ve picked up my Brompton after its service, 5 days about right for a break.
