Allotment Diary–Tuesday 14 June 2016

Started my new project today, painting the fence that’s going to mark the entrance to my plot.  The fence is going to be a planter as well.  The Dark Oak colour is pretty opaque, but not quite enough for a single coat to cover all of the red paint, it took 20 minutes per pallet, 9 to go.

Also did my bit for the site, by strimming most of the green drive that run’s down to my plot.  I strimmed until the battery ran out – which took a long time – according to the muscles in my arms and shoulders.

Did a quick weed and then scoured the plot for space to pop in some extra plants, in the end I found space for two rows of rocket, at each end of the asparagus bed and two rows of radish in between the cauliflowers, they should be pulled up before they interfere.

I’m buying all of my seeds in bulk now off Amazon in minimal packaging, same variety as these but in a pack of 4200 for £1.49, that’s about 2p for a large bunch of radish picked every day for a week.

Cropped only for myself today, a big bag of kale, radish, chard, oriental lettuce, beetroot, chive and onion leaves – that’s going to make a great smoothie mix.
