Allotment Diary–Thursday 23 June 2016
I’m really frustrated at the moment because I have so much to plant and nowhere to put anything else. I look across to the side of my plot though where I’m growing peas and beans and I see so little productivity there compared to my other beds, once they’ve cropped they are going to be turned into raised beds and because of the problems with mares tail, I’m going to put double thickness weed stop fabric underneath them! Still I did pull a row of radish, only half of which had come to anything and replaced it with spring onion.
Jon is finishing the painting of the fence.
I cropped my first carrot as a test and I was very pleased to see how long and straight it was. Debbie needs to pick some veg for a lesson at school at the weekend, and it looks like carrots can be included.
Then it was a thorough weed and strawberries and peas as a snack, followed by a big crop, beans, peas, onions, spring greens, mixed kale and mixed lettuce
Finally I loaded up the bike and headed home
